Drawing a blank.
Whether it’s the effects of apocalyptic weather, financial stressors, the wear and tear on your soul from the modern world, business admin or the general exhaustion of being a parent… sometimes you can hit a wall when it comes to creating compelling content for your business.
It’s ok to hit brick walls. We have very busy lives most of us. It doesn’t always work to be “on” – engaging, charming, eloquent or, in some cases, well written. It’s even ok if you decide not to show up. If you decide instead to crawl in beside your kid in bed and hide under the duvet ’til morning (seriously fucking tempting) – that is also ok.
I don’t know about you, but I have a fierce knack for beating myself up. Not…literally. That’s a whole other ballgame. But I am extremely hard on myself. I’m open to correction here, but I notice this as a trend among my fellow women. If we don’t master every area of our lives; domesticity, motherhood, work, business, body, mind…we tend to lose the rag at ourselves for “failing”.
I realise that is a sweeping generalisation and I personally know many women who have mastered the art of self-forgiveness (and many men who self-destruct if they get something wrong) but I think women have a tendency to knock themselves down quicker. So, before I hit a rambling note here and go on writing for 8 more paragraphs, what I’m getting at is it’s ok not to be ok all the damn time.
Give yourself a break. Just today. The world keeps turning. Your business will still be there in the morning.
I’m taking some time to be ok with not being ok today…
